School Axis is live in Kinshasa

Our discipline management module is live in Kinshasa. Here's what three months in the field taught us about building for African schools.

After months of intensive development and field testing, the Discipline Management module of School Axis is now in production at a school in Kinshasa. This is a significant milestone for Keemet, and we wanted to share what this launch taught us.

What the module does

The discipline module allows school administrators and teachers to:

  • Record disciplinary incidents per student
  • Automatically notify parents
  • Generate monthly reports by class
  • Track behavioral trends across the school year

The interface is fully in French, designed for tablets and entry-level screens, with an offline mode that syncs automatically when connectivity is restored.

The challenges of building for the DRC

Building for the Congolese context means dealing with constraints that most SaaS tools simply ignore:

  1. Intermittent connectivity - the app must work without internet for hours, sometimes days.
  2. Limited hardware - schools use entry-level Android tablets, not high-end laptops.
  3. Rapid onboarding - teachers don’t have time for multi-day training. The tool must be intuitive from the first hour.

We built School Axis with these three constraints at the heart of every design decision.

What we learned

The first month of deployment was full of lessons. Teachers adopted the tool faster than expected - the learning curve is minutes, not days. However, offline sync revealed edge cases our tests hadn’t covered.

We shipped three fixes in four weeks. That’s exactly the advantage of being a local team: we can visit the school, observe, fix, and redeploy the same day.

What’s next

The attendance, school fees, and report cards modules are under development. They’ll be deployed progressively at the same school before being offered to others.
